Portrait of Mangle Shanks

Dr. Mangle L. Shanks, Ph.D., MBA, BS

Dr. Shanks emerged into the public health arena more than 16 years ago. With this new passion she started her mission in public health by obtaining grants to promote prevention and to provide education to help reduce chronic disease within her church and the community. Since that time, she continuously collaborates with local churches, schools, local governmental agencies, community and faith-based organizations to help promote better health outcomes. She is the founder and CEO of Shanks, Health, Housing, Employment, Education & Training Services, (SHEETS, Inc.), a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization.

Dr. Shanks is very passionate about public health & wellness. She realizes health is multi-dimensional and that success can only be achieved when the connection is made through education in every aspect of health. To be whole, and to have the ability to serve God in totality and help your fellowman, you must be fit physically, mentally, emotionally, financially and spiritually. Moving forward, her vision in public health is to promote a cultural paradigm shift across all generations, with a focus to improve and increase healthier outcomes, to yield a better quality of life, and promote longevity of life. Her constant reminder of why she does this work is embodied within the following quote - “The First Wealth is Health” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Dr. Shanks is a member of the Greater Bethlehem Temple Church. Presently, she teaches the new converts Sunday School class and volunteers her time to directing the Department of Outreach & Social Services. This department houses the following ministries: Counseling, Substance Abuse, Financial Management, Single Parents, New Mothers, Senior Adults, Fitness for His Glory, Public Health & Wellness, and Military/Veteran Ministry.
